Shekhar Kapur owes Bollywood a debt of gratitude forintroducing us to science fiction in the romance genre. Mr India, which hasbecome a cult classic, was directed by Kapur and paved the way for a slew of other productions in the same genre. Mogambo, played by the late veteran actor Amrish Puri, is one of the most iconic bad guys in cinema history.
Mogambo Khush Hua! Three words, but they have enormousmeaning in Indian cinema. The actor who played the drag villain breathed newlife into the role, and he went on to become one of the most well-known villains in the world. But did you know that the Kate star wasn't the first choice for the role of Mr India's bad guy? We, too, were taken aback when we learned of this.
While Amrish Puri elevated the part of Mogambo to newheights, the job was actually given to Anupam Kher. Kher even verified the facttwo years ago. On the set of Hotel Mumbai, the actor said that he was replaced by Amrish Puri. He even expressed his dissatisfaction with this.
“In ‘Mr. India’, Mogambo’s role was offered to mebefore him but after one or two months, makers of that film replaced me withAmrish Puri ji. When you are dropped from a film then generally an actor feels bad, but when I watched ‘Mr. India’ and saw Amrishji’s work as Mogambo then, I thought that makers of the film took the right decision by casting Amrishji in their film,” Anupam Kher told IANS.
Meanwhile, both performers, Amrish Puri and AnupamKher, are seasoned professionals with a high level of expertise. Puri'sbirthday is today, therefore he'll be celebrating. Today, we remember the legend and celebrate his memories.
