Dilip Kumar was born December 11, 1922 in Peshawar. In the 1930s, he moved toMumbai. The former Prime Minister ofPakistan, Nawaz Sharif, made his ancestral home, the House of Dilip Kumar, anational heritage landmark. It is locatedin Peshawar's Qissa Khawani Bazaar. As hereturned to his home in 1988, the actor even touched the soil. Nine years later, Nishan-eImtiaz was awarded to thelegendary actor for his contributions to the arts.
