Saira Banu was only 12 years old when she fell for DilipKumar, who was 34 at the time. This was the time that Mughal-e-Azam was finally released.Saira, a young girl, was eager to meet Dilip Saab at its premiere. But he wasunable to make it. The actress was devastated.
Banu later recalled their first meeting and stated thathe smiled at them and commented on how beautiful I was. "I knew deep downthat I was going be his wife."
Although Saira Banu offered him many opportunities, herefused. However, he couldn't resist her charm. Not to mention, the actress was very popular back then.
Saab's autobiography Dilip Kumar: the Substance andShadow wrote that "When I got out of my car and entered the garden thatleads to my house, I still remember my eyes falling upon Saira, who was standing in the foyer looking stunning in a brocade scarf in her new house. It was shocking to me thatshe wasn't the same young girl I used to avoid because she looked too young for my role. She was indeed a full-fledgedwoman and in fact more beautiful than I imagined. I just stepped forward, shook her hand, and time stood stillbetween us.
The couple were married in 1966. Saira Banu, Naseem Banu,was the cupid between them. Their marriage was the talk of town because of their agegap. They proved their love to each otherin spite of all odds.
